The Utah High School Activities Association recently named Herriman High School Cross Country and Track and Field coach James Barnes the 2016 5A Coach of the Year during their Distinguished Service Awards luncheon.
Barnes has been coaching for 11 years and has won 10 state titles between the two sports during this time. Prior to coming to Herriman six years ago, he coached at Provo, Bear River and Riverton where he won titles at each school.
“He had been the Athletic Director for a couple years at Herriman, but gave it up so he could continue to teach and coach,” said Herriman High Assistant Principal Lynn Allred.
In addition to winning state and region titles, Coach Barnes has helped many athletes receive athletic scholarships in Cross Country and Track, coaching several All-Americans in the two sports.
Congratulations to Coach Barnes and thank you for your dedication to the student-athletes at Herriman High School.
