When a patriotic holiday comes around, Oakcrest Elementary likes to proudly fly the American flag – actually 25 of them – outside the school. That show of patriotism is about to be elevated thanks to the hard work and dedication of a local Boy Scout. When Dakota Buckner found out Oakcrest students, staff and PTA members were trying to find a way to purchase an additional 25 flags to fly on holidays in honor of our country and military, Dakota stepped in to help with an Eagle Scout project that went above and beyond. He raised enough money to buy 33 flags for the school, containers to store all the flags and flag stands for indoors use. On top of that, he installed a system for displaying the flags on the lawn outside, which eliminates the need to hammer posts into the ground. Thank you, Dakota, for helping Oakcrest show its American pride with a beautiful display of red, white and blue. Your hard work will have a lasting impact on the Oakcrest Community.
