District Students, Teachers and Staff Participate in Great Utah ShakeOut

Student taking cover under deskIt is an important drill that teaches young and old alike the importance of knowing how to stay safe in an earthquake. Hundreds of students, teachers and staff throughout the District dropped for cover participating in the 2017 Great Utah ShakeOut. For students at Columbia Elementary it was an opportunity to talk about earthquake safety and knowing if the ground begins to shake, they need to drop, cover and hold on. As soon as the simulated sounds of an earthquake were broadcast into classrooms, students did exactly what they were supposed to do, taking cover underneath desks, covering their heads and holding on. Then, when the rumbling stopped, everyone evacuated the school in an orderly manner. Thanks to everyone for making safety a top priority and participating in this important drill.
