JATC-South Students interact with law enforcement officers at a recent drill at the schoolStudents in Fire, EMT and Criminal Justice programs at the Jordan Academy for Technology and Careers (JATC South) in Riverton received a hands-on lesson in the kind of tragedies they may face in their future careers.

The students were part of a mass casualty drill with a scenario in which a distracted (texting) driver causes a rollover accident with a school bus. The purpose of the drill was to teach students how to manage large numbers of patients, secure and investigate an accident scene and highlight the relationship between police, fire and EMS.

The mock disaster took take place outside the school. It also involved nail tech and barbering students  playing the role of victims in the accident and District staff acting as anxious parents and members of the media.

Thanks to everyone who participated giving students such a valuable career experience.
