Former University of Utah head football coach Ron McBride surprised students at West Jordan Middle School with a grant that he hopes will improve literacy. The relatively new Ron McBride Foundation awarded West Jordan Middle School a $10,000 grant to purchase books and textbooks, some in Spanish, with the goal of getting more students excited about reading.
The Ron McBride Foundation was formed to improve education in Utah and support the well being of Utah youth. McBride told students, “education gives you power.” He added that all money raised by his foundation goes toward education.
West Jordan Middle School Principal, Dixie Garrison, says the grant will allow students to have books to read at home, in the school library and increase participation in the school’s lunch book club. She said the grant is so important because the library is the heart of the school.
Thanks to the Ron McBride Foundation for the generous support.
