FUN FACT FRIDAY: 7000 South Pedestrian Bridge

Students load onto bus at Oquirrh Elementary SchoolIt is a work in progress that is having an impact on some students, teachers and staff in Jordan School District.

The 7000 South pedestrian bridge was very skillfully lifted into place over Bangerter Highway last weekend. Now, work on support structures for the new bridge is progressing. Crews are constructing concrete columns that will support the access ramps on each end of the bridge.

This work means hundreds of students who normally walk to Oquirrh Elementary school are temporarily being bused. UDOT is funding the temporary bus shuttles for more than 300 Oquirrh students who live west of Bangerter. Jordan School District has been working in a collaborative effort with UDOT to insure that all students make it to and from school safely. Please use caution as you travel around this construction zone.

The pedestrian bridge is now scheduled to open in mid-October.

Here is a fun, time-lapse video of the pedestrian bridge being moved into place.
