- Planners estimate that by 2016 the rolls at K-12 public schools in the Southern Salt Lake Valley will grow by more than 25,000 students. Accommodating this influx of students in traditional community-based schools will require the construction of at least 26 new school buildings at a cost of $975 million.
- On Nov. 29, Jordan School District administrators held a Growth Summit with elected officials and business leaders to address the issues, options and costs for educating the increasing student population, including:
- In which cities will the growth occur?
- How will the growth be funded?
- What are options for dealing with the growth?
- What impact could creation of a new school district have?
