Student Appeal
The Board upheld the recommendation of the District Appeals Committee concerning a student appeal. Randy Brinkerhoff abstained from the vote because of his personal interest in the case.

  • In reference to student travel requests, J. Dale Christensen reminded the Board it needs to be sensitive to the costs of student trips and their financial impact on families.
  • Ellen Wallace noted the progress of the Bingham High School football field and expressed concern about getting it done on time. She also asked for a report on the number of teacher openings for fall, and asked if Lone Peak Elementary School’s air conditioning had been repaired.
  • Randy Brinkerhoff reported on his attendance at Herriman Elementary School’s dance festival, the District’s year-round new teacher orientation, the BYU Partnership summer conference, and the first meeting of the Board of Education for the remaining Jordan School District.
  • Kim Horiuchi thanked JEA for hosting a dinner for the new school district board of education. She suggested the three school boards meet together and discuss common goals and purposes.
  • Peggy Jo Kennett reported on her attendance at year-round new teacher orientation and the BYU Partnership conference. She expressed appreciation to Joel P. Jensen Middle School for sending her a copy of its Year in Review publication. She recognized Tamra Baker, principal at Draper Elementary School, as the new president of the Utah Association of Elementary School Principals. Mrs. Baker will serve as president for the 2010-11 school year. On behalf of the Falcon Ridge Elementary School PTA, Mrs. Kennett presented a limited edition brick to Superintendent Newbold.
