Proposed Boundary Change for Fox Hollow Elementary and Hayden Peak Elementary

At the direction of the Jordan School District Board of Education, a boundary change is being proposed for Fox Hollow and Hayden Peak Elementary Schools. The new boundary would allow both schools to operate on a traditional calendar. If adopted, the boundary would be in effect beginning with the 2017-18 school year.

The Board of Education has established a process for considering boundary changes.  This page is designed to provide information about that process and the boundary option the Board of Education is considering.  Please follow the links below to learn more and provide important feedback to the Board of Education regarding the boundary option being considered.

Boundary Option (Maps, Enrollment, and Considerations)

Below is a link to the map for the proposed boundary option being considered for Fox Hollow and Hayden Peak. Two maps have been provided:  one of the current boundary, and one of the proposed boundary.

The projected boundary population for each school is listed on each map.  Outlined below are factors you may wish to consider as you review these options:

  • Permits:  Indicates the opportunity for students to apply for a permit to the school of their choice based on available space under the proposed boundary option
  • Projected Enrollment & Growth Potential:  Indicates the anticipated growth of student population at each school
  • School Calendar: Indicates whether the school will operate on a traditional or year-round calendar
  • Future Considerations: Indicates what implications the boundary has for future student housing

General Information

  • Q:  Why is a boundary being proposed between Fox Hollow and Hayden Peak Elementary schools?
A:  A boundary change is being considered in order to allow both schools to operate on a traditional calendar.
  • Q:  What is the process and timeline for determining boundaries?
A:  A boundary option has been developed by district staff. This option, and the accompanying information, will be posted online for the next several weeks.  The public is encouraged to give feedback regarding the option using the survey section below.  Two open houses will be held by District staff at Fox Hollow Elementary and at Hayden Peak Elementary on Thursday, January 5. At the open houses, patrons will have the opportunity to discuss the boundary options being considered.  Following the open houses and a period of public feedback through the online survey, Board members will review a summary report of feedback received and finalize boundaries as early as January 24, 2017. The same information presented on the website will also be made available at the open houses.  Patrons do not need to attend the open houses to give feedback, since all feedback can be given online through the survey at any time.  For convenience, Internet access will be provided on site to patrons who attend an open house and wish to give feedback that evening.
  • Q:  Will students be able to permit to the school of their choice?
A:  Under the Utah Open Enrollment law, schools accept permits until they reach their building capacity.  If the proposed boundary is adopted, both buildings will be at or above their capacity. Permits would only be accepted on a very limited basis, if at all.
  • Q: How will this affect my Dual Language Immersion (DLI) student?
A: All DLI students and their siblings will be allowed to remain at Fox Hollow Elementary
  • Q:  What will this proposed change mean for my school in the future?
A:  The proposed boundary has implications for both schools. For Hayden Peak, one or two portables will need to be added immediately to accommodate the additional students. For Fox Hollow, portables will need to be added in order to accommodate remaining students on a traditional calendar. Because the growth within the boundary will continue, it is anticipated that a Modified Traditional Schedule will need to be implemented in as little as one or two years. This schedule will accommodate more students but allow the school to stay on a traditional calendar. A traditional calendar (not modified) will be maintained for as long as possible. For more information about the MTS, please view the Modified Traditional Schedule information sheet.
  • Q:  How will the input from my survey be used?
A:  The feedback provided will be carefully reviewed by District staff.  A summary report of feedback received will be provided to and reviewed by the Board of Education before a final decision is made regarding boundaries.  The Board will also receive a copy of every open-ended response submitted through the survey.
