ABOUT ELK RIDGE

LogoElk Ridge Middle School is located in South Jordan, Utah. South Jordan is a sprawling suburb of Salt Lake City, which offers its residence a clean, safe, well-planned community.
The mission of Elk Ridge Middle is to provide a rigorous academic environment, while providing a social and emotional atmosphere that promotes lifelong learning and character guidance.

  • The three main goals of our school are to instill: a commitment to learn, confidence to succeed, and courage to make a difference.
  • The school serves approximately 1400 students in grades seven, eight and nine.
  • Elk Ridge Middle, which opened in 1994, is an attractive, modern building featuring clusters of 4 classroom areas. The building is completely accessible to handicapped students and provides a very pleasant air-conditioned climate for students to learn.
  • The school operates on a standard nine-month calendar. School begins at 7:55 a.m. and ends at 2:50 p.m. There are seven teaching periods and all students receive a 30-minute lunch period.
  • The teacher/pupil ratio is 1 to 26.30 in Grades 7 and 8 and 1 to 27.00 in Grade 9, but actual class sizes vary.
  • All staff members are certified to teach in their assigned area of expertise. Teachers and administrators are evaluated on a regular basis.
  • The curriculum follows guidelines set by Jordan District and the Utah State Board of Education. In addition to basic subjects, students are offered a variety of classes in music, art, career and technical education and foreign language.
  • A qualified staff provides resource education for students who require a more individualized program of study.
  • A gifted education/honors program is provided for students who meet strict academic criteria.
  • Students are expected to maintain dress, attendance and discipline standards.
  • A hot lunch is provided daily. Students are offered a choice of two menus at a cost of $1.75.
  • Bus service is provided for students who live more than 2 miles from school. In addition, special bus service is also provided for students living along a hazardous walking route.
  • An active PTSA and School Community Group give continuous input regarding community needs and concerns. Both groups meet regularly.
  • Community volunteers are always welcome. Volunteers provide a variety of support services to the school.
  • Parents may visit the school at any time. All visitors are required to check in at the main office upon arrival. Visits from students who are enrolled in other schools are not encouraged.
  • Our school maintains a monthly program to honor students who exhibit good citizenship skills and who strive to do their best academically. Student of the day and several reward programs encourage the students of Elk Ridge to strive for excellence.
