ABOUT INDIAN HILLS
Indian Hills Middle
School serves an above-average social/economic residential
area located near the mountains in southeast Salt Lake
Valley. The school is dedicated to provide students
with a comfortable atmosphere where students can learn
and make a successful transition from elementary to
high school. Teachers are working to give students a
good foundation in basic skills, and to help them develop
a positive self-concept and a sense of responsibility.
Classes are structured to provide students with opportunities
to explore a range of intellectual, physical, career,
and social experiences. Community involvement plays
an important role in Indian Hills' success.

Indian Hills Middle
School serves about 1,239 students in grades seven,
eight, and nine and is still growing.
- The school, which opened in 1980, is one of the
first Jordan District schools to be designed specifically
for middle school-age students.
- The school day begins at 8:05 a.m. and ends at
3:00 p.m. for grade 7 and begins at 8:10 a.m. and ends
at 3:05 p.m. for grades 8 and 9. The school operates
on a standard 9-month, 180-day calendar.
- The teacher/pupil ratio is 1 to 26.30 in grades
7 and 8 and 1 to 27.90 in grade 9, but actual class
sizes vary.
- All teachers have state certification and preparation
in their teaching field. Most Indian Hills teachers
have over 10 years of teaching experience.
- All teachers and administrators are formally
evaluated on a regular basis.
- Students are required to take 3 years of English,
3 years of math, 2-1/2 years of science, 2-1/2 years
of social studies, and 1 or 2 years of reading. Classes
are also required or offered in French,
German, Spanish, band, orchestra, choral music, computer,
home economics, industrial arts, type, physical education,
drama, speech, and art.
- Accelerated learner programs are available to
qualifying students in English, reading, science, mathematics,
and social studies.
- Resource services are provided to qualifying
students.
- Technology training with computers is provided
for all seventh grade students.
- Students are expected to attend school regularly.
Each day a telephone call is made to the home of each
student who is absent.
- Jordan School District standards in dress and
appearance are followed.
- A hot lunch is provided at a cost of $1.60 to
students. Government standards for free and reduced-price
lunches are followed. (An ala carte lunch menu is also
available.)
- Students who live over two miles from school
receive bus service.
- The PTA and School Community Group encourage
cooperation between the school and community. An active
parent volunteer program is carried out under the direction
of the PTA.
- Indian Hills Middle School encourages students
to develop into mature, responsible citizens by adhering
to the following discipline guidelines:

and community property and laws.
3. Cooperation and courtesy
in all situations.
