Students at Southland Elementary School who demonstrate leadership qualities in and outside the classroom are being rewarded in a unique way. They are invited to a monthly ‘Student Leader Chat,’ where the children get to meet a community leader, share a Chic-fil-A breakfast, and learn about leadership from the special guest. One student from each classroom is chosen for the monthly meetings. The first special guest for the ‘Student Leader Chat’ was Jordan School District Board of Education Vice President, Matthew Young. Mr. Young talked to the students about how he tries to follow ‘The 7 Habits’ of ‘The Leader in Me’ program in his daily life and career. He told them, as a Board member he wants to be proactive with issues like teacher pay, beginning with the end in mind. He said when issues arise, the Board likes to think win-win hoping everyone will be happy with final decisions that are made. Congratulations to the students for their leadership skills that allowed them to participate in this fun and educational chat.
