Field Trip Turns Into Magical Memory For Students With Special Needs

Picture of students on field tripWhen autism specialist Lucia Evans realized many of the special needs students at West Jordan Middle School had never been able to go on a field trip, she decided to do something about it. Ms. Evans wrote a grant and was overwhelmed by the response. Sponsors came through in a way she never expected, all offering kindness and support for the students and their field trip. The community support made it possible for students in all three Special Education classrooms at West Jordan Middle to participate in a Christmas field trip to the Clark Planetarium. One student told Ms. Evans he was so excited about going, he didn’t sleep all night. Many wore their West Jordan Middle t-shirts with pride to show people how awesome the school is and others were simply in awe as they rode the bus on the freeway heading to their destination.

Ms. Evans says the amazement and excitement in the eyes of students touched teacher’s hearts making the field trip a day to remember for everyone involved.

Thanks to Ms. Evans and everyone who helped to make the fabulous field trip happen.
