Foothills Elementary School Students Win Reading Challenge and Turn Principal Into Human Ice Cream Sundae

When Principal Cherie Wilson wanted to get students at Foothills Elementary School more excited about reading and doing it on a regular basis, she came up with a challenge. Ms. Wilson told the student body if they managed to read for ONE MILLION MINUTES over the course of several months, she would let them turn her into a human ice cream sundae. The students took the challenge on and won – accumulating 1.6 MILLION MINUTES of reading since February! In fact, one student, Katie Varga, tallied 50-thousand minutes of reading time alone.

Because of their victory, the entire student body gathered in the gym to put their human sundae making skills to the test with ice cream, all kinds of syrup toppings, sprinkles, cherries, chocolate, whip cream and more – scooping and pouring it all on Principal Wilson.
