Every Wednesday we will feature a story from our JSD Health and Wellness team designed to help parents, students and members of the community live their best lives. The focus will be on physical and mental health and wellness.
The Wellness Waterfall: Improving Your Personal Wellness through Small, Routine Adjustments
Often, when people think about improving their wellness they are overwhelmed by big commitments to major lifestyle changes. While big changes are sometimes successful, short-term commitments to big changes do not lead to lasting well-being.
The happiest, healthiest people create wellness through small, routine adjustments. Individual wellness is like a waterfall. There is no way to store or keep a beautiful waterfall with us, no matter how large it is. Wellness flows through us daily, and we can’t store yesterday’s wellness. There is no way to “store” six months of healthy, happy living and assume that it will carry us through the rest of our lives.
If the habits that create happiness diminish, so does the individual’s wellness.
So, rather than making a resolution to lose 50 pounds in a month, start by taking a morning walk. It’s the little things you do that will make a big difference in your personal wellness.
