Westland Elementary Teacher is Nominated for National History Day Award

She is described as someone who has made a difference in the lives of hundreds of students, and in turn positively impacting the lives of hundreds of families as well. For years, Westland Elementary School teacher Elizabeth Halloran has consistently provided opportunities for her students to stretch their thinking and learning with participation in History Day.

Now, Ms. Halloran is being recognized as Utah’s nominee for the Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year award in the junior division of the National History Day (NHD) Contest. The award recognizes the pivotal role teachers play in the lives of students.

\Every nominee for the $10,000 national award is a teacher who demonstrates a commitment to engaging students in historical learning through innovative use of primary sources, implementation of active learning strategies to foster historical thinking skills, and participation in the National History Day Contest. All nominees will receive $500 as a resultof their nominations.
