Special Business Items
The Board approved an amendment to the Olympia Hills agreement.
Dr. Anthony Godfrey, Superintendent of Schools, thanked Utah’s First Lady Abbey Cox for the “Show Up for Teachers” event. He said it was amazing and provided great support for teachers. The Superintendent thanked everyone involved in the District’s “Walk to Read” program, which has been very successful. He said the results of the reading program are inspiring and he recognized everyone involved for their hard work in making “Walk to Read” such a success.
The Superintendent reported on period products, which the District is required by law to provide in every female bathroom in Jordan schools. A generic dispenser has been selected and will be located in all middle and high school female restrooms and in the upper grade restrooms at the elementary level.
- Patron Comments
- Hollie Poore, a parent, expressed concerns about the safety of students in JSD schools and said parents are ready to get involved and be part of a solution in keeping kids safe. She suggested providing funding for armed guards at every school.
- Jackson Poore, a parent, expressed concern over the safety of students in JSD schools. He is encouraged by having resource officers in secondary schools and said they should be in every elementary school as well.
- Derrick Paul, a parent, asked the Board not to favor one area of the District over another area. He believes West Jordan Elementary School is being neglected and he would like more accurate information before a decision is made on potential closure.
- Daniela Edmonds, a parent, urged the Board to revise boundaries involving Sunset Ridge Middle School and Joel P. Jensen Middle School.
- Jacob Rollins, a teacher and parent, expressed concern over what he called “voices of anger and fear” getting in the way of education, restricting topics that are allowed to be discussed or taught in the classroom. He believes this is negatively impacting students and how prepared they are once they graduate.

- Tracy Miller thanked everyone involved in the First Lady’s “Show Up for Teachers” event including Jordan District teachers who attended and District employees who presented at the event. She said it was fun to see Superintendent Godfrey and the band “Superintendents of Rock” providing entertainment over the lunch break.
- Bryce Dunford reported on the Facilities Committee which will meet soon to finalize a summer project list for next year. He asked the Board to provide input on the list.
Closed, Study Session
In closed session, Board members discussed personnel, property, potential litigation, and negotiations. In open session, the Board discussed an Early Learning Plan and Early Literacy grant as well as a potential exception to the watering moratorium. The Board discussed a potential presentation for the Truth in Taxation Hearing and graduation issues in Administrative Policies AA419 Student Conduct, Dress and Appearance and AA402 Advancement, Promotion, and Graduation of Students. Board members reviewed a number of Administrative Policies including D200 Philosophy of Instruction, AA443 Student Clubs, AA425 Printed Materials – Speech and Manners, A11 Naming Facilities, AA424 Literature Selection and Review, and AA440 Library Media Selection and Review.
