It was a huge honor for the Herriman High School Choir, Orchestra, and Tour Concert Band. They were invited to perform recently at the National Vietnam Veterans Day Parade in Honolulu, Hawaii. The students, along with their music directors, represented Jordan School District and all of the State of Utah with amazing performances, showing their pride and tremendous talents.

The National Vietnam Veterans Day Parade takes place to pay tribute to those who served our nation for the cause of freedom and liberty. Honolulu and its historic Waikiki beach served as a perfect host and backdrop for the important commemoration and welcome home for veterans.

Bands not only marched in the parade, but they were an integral part of the Official Public Ceremony, performing as part of the mass band led by the Marine Forces Pacific Band.

Congratulations to Herriman High School for honoring veterans in such a meaningful way and giving veterans musical memories to last a lifetime.

It was a chance for Mountain Ridge and Riverton High School Chinese Club students to showcase their dedication to serving and enriching the Chinese community. The third annual JSD Chinese Language Fair was held recently and it was a big hit thanks to key leaders Emily, Maya, and Miles from the Chinese Club. The students poured their hearts into the project, promoting the event through engaging videos in an effort to inspire elementary school students to participate.

Superintendent Anthony Godfrey joined the fun as well. Speaking at the fair, he commended the dedication of the Chinese Club students and urged all JSD Chinese students to strive for excellence in learning the language.

The festival’s highlight was the spirited team competitions, including Charades and Jeopardy, in which Foothills Elementary School, Eastlake Elementary School, South Jordan Middle School, and South Hills Middle School students demonstrated their exceptional skills. Southland and Monte Vista Elementary students wowed the audience with Chinese song and dance performances at the Chinese Talent Show.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this meaningful and fun event. We look forward to continued dedication and success in fostering the growth of our Chinese community in the future.

She has a passion for helping science teachers be successful in the classroom and instilling a love for learning in their students. When she is not helping teachers, Lynn Gutzwiller is supporting adults, helping to meet the needs of adult learners, teaching evening classes at Entrada Adult High School.

Because of the incredible work she does, Ms. Gutzwiller is receiving the “Award of Excellence in Adult Education” from the Mountain Plains Adult Education Association (MPAEA). The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of adult education at the State or local level. Ms. Gutzwiller will represent Utah for the Intermountain West.

Congratulations to this amazing JSD educator who helps teachers and students find joy in science and contributes to adults becoming life-long learners.

Students at Rocky Peak Virtual Elementary School were told their hard work in Walk to Read would pay off and it certainly did with a sweet surprise.

The students took their studying seriously during their Walk to Read groups. They then earned points based on participation and engagement. Students used the points to pie their teachers or to pie the school principal. It was a fun reward for amazing students always eager to learn.

She is known for her work in the classroom always helping her sixth-grade students succeed. Now, a Terra Linda Elementary School teacher is being recognized and rewarded for her efforts. Kimberlee Gunderson is KUTV’s “Teacher of the Month” for April. She was interviewed by KUTV’s Kari Hawker Diaz and given a $750 Visa gift card provided by Volkswagen Southtowne. Ms. Gunderson will be featured in a story on channel 2 as well.

KUTV’s “Teacher of the Month” is a program to celebrate teachers who have influenced the lives of students or their families.
