In recognition of the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Westvale Elementary School held its annual Patriot Day flag retirement. The United States of America flag flying in front of Westvale was lowered and retired before being replaced by a new one for the school year during the ceremony. Students showed great reverence, waved small flags, and held a respectful moment of silence to remember the victims of the attacks.
