Supercast Episode 125: Coming Together to Celebrate the Chinese New Year

Superintendent at Herriman High Chinese New Year CelebrationIt was an opportunity to immerse and educate the community in the art, culture, food, music and language of China. For the first time ever, all Chinese DLI and World Language students and teachers in Jordan School District came together for a special Chinese New Year celebration at Herriman High School. They invited the public as well.

On this episode of the Supercast, we take you inside the celebration where there was music, traditional lion and dragon dancing, Kung Fu and delicious food – all in honor of the Chinese Lunar New Year, the Year of the Tiger.


doTERRA International Helps Provide Calming Kits for Jordan School District

Jordan School District Staff holding donated items It was a generous donation from a local company wanting to contribute to the health and wellness of educators. doTERRA International, located in Pleasant Grove, donated hundreds of bottles of their therapeutic grade essential oils to the Jordan Health and Wellness Team. The team decided they wanted to do something unique to help reduce workplace stress for principals in JSD schools, so they are making “Calming Kits,” comprised of different items to reduce stress and anxiety. The doTERRA essential oils will be included in every kit when they are delivered.

Jordan Education Foundation Celebrates Generosity of Donors

Attendees enjoy a performance of the Mountain Ridge MadrigalsIt was a day to celebrate everyone who supports students, teachers and education by donating to and being involved with the Jordan Education Foundation. The Foundation held its annual Donor Appreciation Luncheon at the JATC South in Riverton. Guests were able to visit a variety of educational booths which featured different programs donors contribute to, programs that make a big difference in the lives of students and teachers.

The theme of the luncheon was “Lift! WE RISE TOGETHER” JEF Executive Director made the opening remarks welcoming everyone, thanking them for helping to lift students, teachers, classrooms and staff throughout Jordan School District with their donations and support. Superintendent Anthony Godfrey and JEF Board President Dawn Ramsey also talked about the important work donors help to support.

The program ended with a moving musical presentation by the Mountain Ridge High School A Cappella Choir under the direction of Kelly Dehaan.

Oquirrh Hills Middle School 8th Grade Student Headed to USA Nationals in Volleyball

Picture of Gideon playing volleyballHe can bump, set and spike with the best of them and now an Oquirrh Hills Middle School 8th grade student is making a name for himself in competitive volleyball. Gideon Catmull just helped his team win the silver bracket Championship at a National volleyball tournament in Anaheim, California. That’s after playing with the team for just three months.

As a result of the recent win in California, Gideon and his team members will now compete at the USA National Championship in July.

Way to go Gideon! We are cheering you on for another big win.
