Jordan School District Joins Utah Department of Agriculture & Food and USBE in “Farm to School” Initiatives Bringing Fresh Fruit and Veggies into School Cafeterias

It is a way to help educate students and their families on all the benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables every day. Jordan School District is proud to be part of Utah’s “Farm to School” initiatives, which support local farmers bringing local produce straight from the field to our cafeteria tables. JSD Nutrition Services staff work closely with local farmers to bring fresh food in and help the lunchroom workers learn how to use seasonal food picked fresh from local fields.

At Majestic Elementary School representatives from the Utah Department of Agriculture & Food and USBE, along with members of the media, were on hand as the cafeteria staff prepared a delicious free summer lunch. Part of the lunch consisted of fresh raw and cooked yellow squash from Bangerter Farm and chocolate chip zucchini muffins, made with Bangerter Farm zucchini. Serving fresh food is a great way to increase students’ exposure to locally-grown produce in Utah and encourage healthy eating habit that will last a lifetime.

Thanks to everyone behind the “Farm to School” initiatives and JSD’s amazing Nutrition Services Staff for giving students opportunities to try delicious food fresh off the farm.
