Mountain Point Elementary Students Achieve Huge Success at Community Supported PTA Color Run

It was all smiles as students finished the recent PTA Color Run fundraiser at Mountain Point Elementary School. Parents, family, and members of the community stepped up in a big way to help students reach their fundraising goal collecting $30,000 for the PTA and the important work they do in the school each year.

If they achieved their fundraising goal, Principal Elizabeth Felt and Assistant Principal Jennifer Manning promised students and the community that they would have their hair colored in bright colors as a reward. So, the two made an appointment at a local hair salon, and held a big reveal of their new hair colors for the entire school to see.

Thank you to the generous community for helping students have so much fun at our PTA Color Run, raising money to support teachers and students at Mountain Point Elementary School!

Elk Ridge Middle School Teacher Receives Prestigious College Board and USBE Award

He is described as simply one of the best teachers around and students are lucky to have him in the classroom. Please join us in congratulating Elk Ridge Middle School Social Studies teacher AJ Steele. Mr. Steele was recently recognized by the College Board and the Utah State Board of Education as an Advanced Placement Highflyer Teacher because of his extraordinary work in the number of students taking the AP exams and the percentage of students with exceptional scores.

This award goes to a select group of teachers who have proven practices in building a classroom culture of confidence when it comes to taking the AP exam. Educators recognized with the award had at least 75% of their students take the AP exam with a pass rate exceeding 10% above the Utah average.

Congratulations, Mr. Steele! Keep up the great work inspiring student success.

Celebrating Elk Ridge Middle School at the Recent Board of Education Meeting

It was a night to celebrate and take pride in students, teachers, and staff at Elk Ridge Middle School. Elk Ridge students led the Pledge of Allegiance and then shared with the Board the many reasons why their school is so special.

Kari Johnson, Student Body Officer, talked about the rich history of Elk Ridge Middle School dating back to 1994 when the school opened. She said there has always been a tradition of taking pride in moving things from good to great at Elk Ridge Middle. She praised the really great teachers who inspire student success and work so hard to provide opportunities. Kari said students enjoy a number of celebrations at the school throughout the year and they now have 25 clubs giving students a sense of belonging. Kari said over the years, the school’s commitment to students has not changed and they are still always moving from good to great.

Board members congratulated the students and wished them well this school year by shaking their hands at the end of the presentation.

Utah Department of Public Safety Employees Stop by Heartland Elementary School for Day of Service Supporting Students and Teachers

It was an exciting day for students, teachers, and staff at Heartland Elementary School, a day they won’t soon forget. That’s because employees from the Utah Department of Public Safety, including DPS Commissioner Jess Anderson, came to the school as part of their commitment to community service work. It was their first stop on the Commissioner’s Service Project, which will have DPS employees involved in community service work throughout the State.

The DPS employees spent several hours going from classroom to classroom, in and outside the school, helping with art projects, reading, playground duty, playing games, and helping to serve lunch in the cafeteria. They took the time to talk to teachers, students, and Principal Buddy Alger.

Thanks to the Utah Department of Public Safety and Commissioner Anderson for taking time out of their busy schedules to support our schools!
