It was a huge surprise for a very deserving first-grade teacher at Mountain Point Elementary School. The Utah Jazz showed up during a school assembly, along with the Jazz Bear, to honor Charity Horne as a Utah Jazz MVE, “Most Valuable Educator.” The award is given during the regular basketball season and recognizes teachers who are an inspiration.

Mountain Point Principal Elizabeth Felt says Ms. Horne is the kind of teacher who makes learning vivid, hands-on, and fun, she is a cheerleader to everyone around her. A member of the community nominated Ms. Horne for the award. Her principal also says Ms. Horne gives 100 percent in everything she does at school, elevating everyone around her. She does everything with joy.

Jordan School District’s Transportation team has worked hard over the years to grow our fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) school buses. Now, the team is receiving a top national award for its work.

Natural Gas Vehicles for America has selected Jordan School District as the recipient of the 2022 NGV Achievement Award – Natural Gas School Bus Fleet Program. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the advancement of natural gas as a transportation fuel. JSD currently has a fleet of 122 CNG school buses, the largest in the State of Utah. CNG buses cost a lot less to operate compared to traditional diesel fuel school buses and they emit significantly less pollutants into the air.

Congratulations to our Transportation team!  Keep up the good work keeping costs down and helping to protect the environment.

It was an exciting first for hundreds of 5^th and 6^th grade students in Jordan School District. They were guests at a recent Salt Lake City Stars basketball game at Vivint Smart Home Arena. The students brought the arena to life with loud cheers and encouragement as players took to the court against the Oklahoma City Blue. About 20 students were invited onto the court where they were allowed to high-five players as they were announced. There were lots of free t-shirts and pendants given out during the game as well.

Attending the game was part of “Career Day,” for the students. During breaks in the game, short videos were shown highlighting people who have found success working their dream job, not as an athlete, but other positions in professional sports; positions with the Utah Jazz like Director of Community Relations, Marketing Director, Web Developer, video production professional, and Vice President of Ticket Sales.

The students say attending the game and cheering on the Stars is an experience they won’t soon forget. They returned to school excited about new career opportunities as well.
