Picture of Spelling Bee winner Sophia MontanaShe has a flare for spelling the most difficult of words anywhere, anytime and now an amazing Daybreak Elementary School 6th grade student will soon be competing with the best in the nation. Sophia Montana was crowned co-champion of the Regional Spelling Bee last week. Sophia’s co-champion is an 8th grader.

Sophia excitedly shared the amazing news with her Principal Leslie Ewell over spring break. It was a really tough competition. After the first round, the field of competitors was narrowed down from 160 spellers to 20 and then the competition went on for 18 more rounds.

The whole spelling bee lasted five hours. Sophia won after correctly spelling pneumatocyst.

She will now go on to represent Utah at the National Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May!

Congratulations, Sophia. We will be cheering you on at Nationals in Washington D.C.!!!
