West Jordan High School will be holding an information meeting for the International Baccalaureate (IB) program on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. in the West Jordan High Media Center. This is an opportunity for parents and guardians to learn more about the IB college prep program and ask questions about what’s involved and what advantages the program offers.
IB courses are advanced courses that are designed to provide students with deep inquiry and understanding in a content area and prepare students for university level course work. Many universities accept IB courses for college credit and give high regard to IB courses for college acceptance as well as scholarship opportunities. Students can begin taking IB courses in 11th grade and most exams are at the end of 12th grade.
IB students work closely together in a small cohort on projects and course work building relationships and learning from one another. The focus of these classes is on collaborative learning and mutual knowledge exchange in order to prepare students for career and college readiness.
Students can engage as a full IB diploma student which includes taking six IB courses and earning the IB diploma in addition to their high school diploma. Alternatively, students can take the courses individually and earn an IB certificate and college credit for each IB course they complete.
