There was a lot of fun reading going on at Heartland Elementary School for Read Across America Week. Books like “The Cat in the Hat,” “Fox in Socks,” and “Horton Hears a Who,” took center stage being read by community leaders, police and firefighters, West Jordan Mayor Dirk Burton, and Superintendent Anthony Godfrey. The special guests were escorted by student chaperones, from classroom to classroom, where they enjoyed reading some Dr. Seuss classics to kids from kindergarten to sixth grade.
Read Across America Week is celebrated from March 2 – 6, and it begins on the birthday of the beloved author, Dr. Seuss. The entire month of March is dedicated to reading and encouraging students to read, educating people about the benefits of reading, especially among children and young adults.
We appreciate every opportunity to promote literacy in our schools and are grateful to those in the West Jordan community who participated in Read Across America Week, some in themed costumes, taking time to read to students at Heartland Elementary. Your support makes a difference in our schools!
