You are invited to a meeting of the Board of Education of Jordan School District on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at the JATC South Campus, 12723 S. Park Avenue, Riverton, Utah. The study session begins at 4 p.m. The Regular Board Meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Patrons may view the general session online at boardmeeting.jordandistrict.org.

Monte Vista Elementary Commemorates Ruby Bridges Legacy with a Walk-to-School Event

The Monte Vista Elementary School community joined the national “Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day.” The November 14th annual event honors the legacy of Ruby Bridges, who, at just six years old, became the first African-American student to attend a previously segregated school in Louisiana. Each year, students participate in this walk to raise awareness about the impacts of racism and bullying in all forms. To mark the occasion, school staff distributed purple flags, bags, and candy at various stations along the walking route. Families were also encouraged to wear purple to symbolize courage, resilience, and unity.

Jordan School District Holds First “Future Teacher Fest”

Students from all 12 Jordan School District middle schools traveled to the JATC North campus to learn more about what it takes to be an educator at “Future Teacher Fest.” Students were selected to participate in this first-ever event for Jordan District based on their YouScience scores, which indicated an aptitude and interest in becoming a teacher.

The students were first treated to a panel discussion on the benefits of working in education that included Jordan School District Superintendent Anthony Godfrey, along with several other Jordan District teachers and administrators. After the panel, students could choose three rotations and learn more about various teaching specialities, including preschool, elementary education, special education, administration, counseling, coaching, and more.

Thank you to everyone who donated their time to help educate our next generation of educators. We look forward to seeing many of these middle schoolers back in our classrooms as teachers in the future!

Valley High School’s Long Time Tradition of Celebrating Day of the Dead

It is a long-time tradition at Valley High School thanks to the hard work and dedication of two incredible teachers.

On this episode of the Supercast, we take you to Valley High’s Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos celebration, a touching and colorful commemoration, remembering lost loved ones though family photos, favorite foods, and so much more. At Valley it’s also an opportunity for students who participate to benefit academically through the school’s credit recovery program.

Riverton Elementary School Celebrates Kindergarten Steller Reading Success with Space-Themed Party

Dr. Godfrey and Riverton Elementary Teachers It was an out of this world celebration for about 70 kindergarten students at Riverton Elementary School. The students found some pretty steller success in literacy, mastering their letters and sounds by November 1, so they were treated to a space-themed party called “Planet Kindergarten.” All of the students wore astronaut looking helmets, hand-made out of brown grocery bags. They paraded through the halls of Riverton Elementary as classmates cheered them on, applauding their reading success. After the parade, the students headed to the gym for a dance party. “Planet Kindergarten” is a Districtwide initiative to inspire students to reach literacy goals.

Thanks to the kindergarten team and literacy coaches for recognizing student success in such a fun and engaging way. Congratulations, kindergarten students! Keep up the great work learning to read and loving literacy.
