The Board approved revisions to Administrative Policy AA414 Student Overnight Travel, new Administrative Policy DP382 Salary Supplement for Highly Needed Educations (SHiNE) and a trade agreement with Ivory Land Corporation

Superintendent’s Report
Dr. Anthony Godfrey, Superintendent of Schools, recognized Teacher Fellows in the District who he said are hand-picked to be a part of the program.

Staff Assistant in Teaching and Learning, Chris Richards-Khong, said Teaching and Learning has designed three leadership grants for quality instruction and the Teacher Fellowship track is one of them. In the track she said teachers continue to develop skills as teacher leaders. Ms. Richards-Khong said the teachers do a deep dive into being a teacher leader to benefit their home school and Jordan School District as a whole. Their work will support classroom innovation, foster collaboration among colleagues, and ensure high-quality teaching.

Dr. Godfrey reported there are many layers of complexity in running a school district and he is grateful to everyone who worked so hard on a successful launch to another school year. He said the New Teacher Induction was a great event, even making national news. He said we can’t do what we do in the District without valued employees and the Board of Education.

• Patron Comments
• Jeff Riffleman, a parent, expressed concern over the handling of what he said was a student assault at West Jordan High School. He believes an investigation into the incident was incomplete and District policy was not followed. He asked the Board to change policy and said toxic locker room cultures should not be allowed to thrive.
• Michelle McAffee, a parent, expressed concern over the safety of students in schools, especially those who have been the victims of assault. She asked that the Board make sure District policies are being followed and that support is given to students who want to report incidents. 

• Board Comments
• Niki George thanked all of the employees who worked so hard over the summer months. She also expressed sincere thanks to school counselors who make sure students have a great experience as they return to school for the new school year. Ms. George reported on the USBE which is launching a school attendance campaign for districts to participate in if they choose.
• Bryce Dunford reported on the Audit Committee which is moving forward with a conflict-of-interest audit in the District. He also reported on the UHSAA which is preparing to do a realignment in 2026.
• Lisa Dean thanked everyone involved in organizing the Teacher Professional Development Day and for offering such amazing keynote speakers. Ms. Dean recognized Joel P. Jensen Middle School for being selected as a “Resilient You” award recipient last year and the custodians at West Jordan High for their hard work in getting the HVAC working again for the start of the school year. Ms. Dean reported that the Jordan Education Foundation’s classroom grants are open and there will be a Day of Service on September 11 to collect items for Principal’s Pantries in the District.

Closed, Study Session
In closed session, Board members discussed personnel, property, and potential litigation, and security.

In open session, the Board reviewed open house feedback on fluency materials and the Wayfinder curriculum. They also reviewed new Administrative Policy DP382 Salary Supplements for Highly Needed Educators (SHiNE). The Board discussed an overnight travel exception, 2026 summer projects,  the 3DE school model, and reviewed changes to enrollment considerations.
