Honoring a K9 Hero in Our Community

Motorcycle officers line the sidewalk in front of Jordan School District Offices Police officers from around the State joined in a motorcade procession to honor the life and service of West Jordan Police K9 Maya who was killed in the line of duty. The motorcade was a way for the community to honor Maya as well, and it ended with a moving show of support at Jordan School District’s auxiliary services building following the funeral for Maya.

Maya is described as a loving dog who loved police work.

Thank you, Maya, for your service to our community. Our hearts are with West Jordan Police as they mourn this tragic loss.

Local Utah Company Steps Up to Support Needs of Refugee Children in Jordan School District

Picture of team donating beddingThey are families and children often sleeping on the floor without beds, pillows, warm blankets or bedding. The challenges for refugee families are many, but one local company is partnering with the Jordan Education Foundation in Jordan School District to provide some relief.

Beddy’s is a West Jordan based business which produces easy to use, one-piece zipper bedding sets. In an effort to provide bedding to children with urgent, immediate needs in their own community, Beddy’s is donating 150 bedding sets to students and families in the Jordan School District.

The bedding sets will be distributed to refugee and other families in need, along with 200 brand new beds as part of the Foundation’s “Bed ‘R Homes for Kids” campaign, which is changing lives for the better.

Thanks to everyone involved in this project helping students have a better night’s sleep so they can do better in school during the day.

Fox Hollow Elementary School Third Graders Celebrate being Centenarians

Students dressed up as cenenariansThey grow up so fast and for third grade students at Fox Hollow Elementary School, it seems like they aged overnight. In fact, they did. The students had some fun celebrating 103 days of being in the third grade this year by turning themselves into centenarians. They dressed up, complete with canes and make-up, to look like they were 103 years old.

Great job students! You look awesome for your age.

Valentines Travel Cross Country to Columbia Elementary School Students

Picture of Valentines and mapThey are loving the lessons a Valentine Exchange is bringing to students in Angela Drope’s 3rd grade class at Columbia Elementary School. Mrs. Drope decided it would be fun to participate in a cross-country Valentine Exchange. Her students designed home-made cards with letters about their class, which were mailed to students in 25 classrooms around the country. Mrs. Drope’s students received Valentines and letters in return and they are learning about students who live in the 25 other states.

The Valentines from students in other states are on display for everyone to enjoy at Columbia, along with a map of the United States with little heart markers to show where all the Valentines came from.

Even the front office staff have enjoyed waiting and watching for the Valentines to arrive.

Great job, Mrs. Drope on creating a Valentine’s Day experience students and staff won’t soon forget.
