Families Invited to Special Education Transition Fair for Students

Jordan School District’s Special Education team is excited to announce an in-person, 2023 Special Education Transition Fair and they would love for you to join them! The fair is there to help create connections with agencies that will assist students after graduation as they move beyond Jordan School District, with things like independent housing, finding jobs, and life skills.

More than 20 community resources will be available at the Transition Fair to help answer any post-secondary questions for our students and their families.

The Transition Fair will be held on Monday, April 10, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Auxiliary Services building, 7905 South Redwood Road, West Jordan.

Riverton High School Student Film Team Wins Second Place at STN National Convention

A student film team from Riverton High School returned from the Student Television Network (STN) annual national convention with an impressive second-place award in the Silent Film competition. The convention, the largest high school film/broadcast group in the nation, was attended by more than 3,000 students nationwide. It was the first year that Riverton High School participated in the convention, and they brought three student teams who competed in the Short Film, Music Video, and Silent Film competitions.

Each team was given six hours to plan, film, edit, and produce a film responding to a specific prompt. Despite the intense time pressure, each team did very well. However, the Silent Film team stood out, producing a one-minute silent film that responded to the prompt “Walking on Cloud Nine” and won second place in their division.

Riverton High School teacher Joshua Luchs, who accompanied the students to the convention, said, “Getting second in one of our categories was a big deal for us. STN’s annual convention is highly competitive, with hundreds of video production programs nationwide attending. We are incredibly proud of our students and their achievement, and we intend to continue competing in subsequent years.”

Congratulations to Riverton High School’s Film students on their impressive achievement! Their success is a testament to the students and their teachers’ hard work, talent, and dedication.

Thank You Custodians, Mechanics, and Many More Once Again Pitching in to Take on the Task of Snow Removal at Schools and Offices

Mother Nature continues to provide Utah with an unprecedented amount of snow, despite the fact that the calendar says it is spring. All the snow has resulted in a tremendous amount of work for many dedicated employees constantly clearing sidewalks, parking lots, playgrounds, and more.

Thank you to all who have helped in the snow removal process; custodians, mechanics, sweepers, principals, and other staff members. We appreciate all of you, and are so grateful for the enormous time and efforts to make sure the areas in and around our schools and buildings are cleared for students, teachers, and staff.

Virtual Learning Day on Tuesday, April 4

Winter Weather Warning Icon Due to adverse travel conditions and unplowed streets in many areas of the District, along with predictions by the National Weather Service of additional significant snow accumulations throughout the day, Tuesday, April 4, will be a virtual learning day for all students in Jordan School District.

All schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, April 4.

There will be no in-person learning in our schools on Tuesday. No meals, no preschool, and no daycare will be provided. Teachers will be available to meet with students virtually between 10 a.m. and noon. Schools will communicate how to best connect with teachers and will share any additional schedule information.

District crews and contracted services will continue to clear snow throughout the day. A decision will be made regarding after-school and extracurricular activities by 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Thank you for your understanding and support. Student and staff safety is our top priority.

Mountain Shadows Elementary School Students Take Stage Performing in Colorful Musical

Students performing on stage It was a musical performance made possible by so many talented people and their hard work paid off. Students at Mountain Shadows Elementary School took the stage in colorful costumes and props, surrounded by a beautiful set for a performance of “Moana Jr.” The play is a musical production that follows the journey of a young girl who sets out to save her island and her people, discovering her true identity and heritage along the way.

Thanks to everyone involved in the production and congratulations to all of the talented students who had a role in the play, on stage or working behind the scenes.
