West Jordan Elementary Students Inspired to Write Letters of Thanks to Local Postal Carrier

They are hundreds of cards and letters written by students at West Jordan Elementary School after Media Specialist Trina McCleary, read them the book “Sincerely, Emerson.” The book follows eleven-year-old Emerson Weber as she writes a letter of thanks to her postal carrier, Doug, and creates a nationwide outpouring of love. It is a story of gratitude, hope, and recognition for all the essential helpers seen every day, and all those who go unseen.

After reading the book, students throughout the school were inspired, with the support of Mrs. McCleary, to write and deliver notes of appreciation to their own mail carrier, Mitchell, who delivers mail to West Jordan Elementary School. In fact, they presented Mitchell with hundreds of cards and notes thanking him for the hard work he does every day, despite the weather that may come his way.

Way to go West Jordan Elementary students! We love this lesson in gratitude.

Serving Up a Taste of Chinese Culture at Foothills Elementary School

Teachers making Chinese dumplingsIt was a fun and relaxing way to learn about Chinese culture and cuisine at Foothills Elementary School. Chinese Dual Language Immersion teacher, Yunliang Bao, organized a Chinese dumpling-making activity for teachers and anyone interested in learning how to make the delicious dumplings.

The Chinese DLI teachers have been working hard to integrate Chinese culture into the school, and decided a cooking lesson in the art of Chinese dumpling-making would be a real treat for teachers and staff. As part of the school’s Wellness Day activities, teachers put their cooking talents to the test, making home-made dumplings, cooking them, and eating the tasty morsels. They also received a side-order of lessons in Chinese culture and learned what Chinese DLI teachers for our community.

Keep up the great work in DLI at Foothills Elementary School.

Recognizing Hard Work of School Counselors During “National School Counseling Week”

High school counselors with gift bags.In honor of “National School Counseling Week” we want to send a sincere message of thanks to the hard-working school counselors throughout Jordan School District. They go above and beyond every single day and work incredibly hard supporting students in so many different ways. As a token of appreciation for all they do, JSD counselors were treated to Crumbl cookies and a small gift pack letting them know “We Think You Rock!”

We encourage you to drop by your counseling center and show your gratitude by offering a word of thanks to the counseling staff. School counselors are here to help students by preparing students for future careers, academic advising, help with social/emotional development, and ensuring today’s students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.

Thank you to all of our school counselors who are making a difference in the lives of Jordan School District students.
