South Valley students and staff were decked out in some of the most creative Halloween costumes for a day filled with fun thanks, in part, to the Herriman High School Peer Leadership Team.
The Herriman High students wanted to make sure South Valley had the best Halloween possible, so they organized a Fall Carnival to go along with the fun of dressing up as colorful characters. There were games, prizes, picture taking and treats for everyone.
Thanks to the Herriman High students and everyone involved in making Halloween such a Spooktacular experience for South Valley students, teachers and staff.
Eastlake Elementary students got an early start celebrating Halloween with the school’s annual performance of “Thriller” led by Visual Art Specialist, Jackie Webster. Every year the production is spectacular with incredible costumes and dynamic dance moves and this year was no exception.
Congratulations to everyone involved, especially to Ms. Webster for her dedication to making happy Halloween memories for students and their families at Eastlake Elementary School.
It was a moment RaeAnna Kirk and her family won’t soon forget. District nurses secretly gathered with balloons, flowers and treats to share some amazing news with RaeAnna, who is the lead nurse for Jordan School District. The nurses wanted to be first to let RaeAnna know she has been selected as the Utah School Nurses Association’s 2022 School Nurse Administrator of the Year!
The recognition was a complete surprise for RaeAnna, but nurses say she is beyond deserving of the award. The nurses read messages which were part of the nomination process, stating things like “RaeAnna is very professional in her duties, each of her team members know that they are valued by her. She goes out of her way to connect with each nurse individually.” Another nurse said, “Throughout the COVID crisis, RaeAnna was the rock that kept our team together.” Still another nurse shared, “RaeAnna really cares for the students that she has worked with. She offers her students space in her office to take breaks as well as making sure that they feel safe and well taken care of at school.”
Congratulations, RaeAnna Kirk. Keep up the compassionate work, you make the District proud!
It was an idea CTE Business and Marketing Teacher Andrea Call had to partner students with entrepreneurs in the community offering a real-life lesson in creating and marketing a new business. Based on the popular reality TV show “Shark Tank,” Ms. Call came up with something called “Miner Tank.”
“Miner Tank” is a competition where local entrepreneurs mentored students over the course of several weeks to help them come up with ideas for starting student-run businesses. Then, in a partnership with the Jordan Education Foundation, the mentors and entrepreneurs heard pitches from students who wanted funding for their new business ideas.
Four groups of students presented, hoping to get financial backing for their ideas, which included businesses called “Germ a Phone,” “My Creature Teacher,” “Dock Hero,” and “Demon Time.”
In the end, the winning business proposal was “My Creature Teacher,” plush stuffed animals that come with a book to help children learn tasks like brushing their teeth before bedtime.
Students behind “My Creature Teacher,” Rylin Hendry and Mary Christensen, will now work with their mentor who will invest time and money to actually help get the student-run business off the ground.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this incredible learning opportunity and thank you to the local entrepreneurs for supporting students and their education.
