School is Back in Session for Summer Jordan PREP Students

Some Jordan School District students are already back in class and having a blast with some really cool hands-on learning. It is part of a free six-week summer program called Jordan PREP,  (PRe freshman Engineering Program).

Jordan PREP is a rigorous academic mathematics-based summer enrichment program that identifies high achieving middle school students with an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math and STEM related fields. The students decide to join the Jordan PREP Program when they are 11 and 12 years old and commit to the program through their senior year in high school.

A big thanks to Stacy Pierce who is the driving force behind the program, bringing it to Jordan School District and the students we serve.

Portuguese Dual Language Immersion Students Come Together to Celebrate Festa Junina

There was lots of colorful clothing, dancing, games, and smiles all around as students in the Portuguese Dual Language Immersion program all came together to celebrate what is called Fest Junina or the June Festival. It is a vibrant celebration that lights up Brazil during the months of June and July.

At Riverton High School the celebration lit up the gymnasium and it was a big party for everyone to enjoy, honoring Brazil’s diverse heritage. Local Brazilian restaurants participated as well, giving everyone a true taste of Brazil. Square dancing, or quadrilha, was also a highlight of the fun and energetic festival.

Thanks to the Portuguese DLI teachers, DLI students, and members of the community for giving everyone the opportunity to experience such a fun, vibrant, and beautiful culture!

Terra Linda Community Comes Together for Family Fun at Cultural Night

It was a night of family fun that took everyone on an adventure to different parts of the world. A Cultural Night was recently held at Terra Linda Elementary School. It took participants from Canada and Columbia to Japan, Greece, Norway, Ecuador, and beyond. Students and their families were able to enjoy some treats and engage in a number of activities getting to know different cultures, dress, traditions, and history.

Thanks, Terra Linda Elementary School, for giving students and their families a ticket to tour different parts of the world.

West Jordan Middle School Shows the Love for Resource Officer Chris Reyes

It was a big surprise and an even bigger show of love and support for West Jordan Middle School Resource Officer Chris Reyes. The school’s faculty, staff, and students honored Detective Reyes with a well-kept secret, surprising him at a school awards assembly. On stage, in front of a packed auditorium, Detective Reyes was told he was being charged (in a good way) with committing big acts of kindness, being responsive and always available to support any situation at the school, being a friend to all, being overall amazing, and always keeping students safe.

West Jordan City Mayor Dirk Burton and members of the West Jordan Police Department were on hand, along with Jordan School District Safety Coordinator Matt Alvernaz, to applaud Detective Reyes and show their support for all he does as a Resource Officer at West Jordan Middle.

Congratulations, Detective Chris Reyes, thank you for all you do to protect and serve students, teachers, staff, and the West Jordan Middle Community.

High Fives for West Jordan High School Seniors During Inspirational “Graduation Walk”

It was a fun and somewhat emotional walk down memory lane for West Jordan High School seniors the day before graduation. The students participated in a “Graduation Walk,” where they walked up and down the halls of their former elementary and middle schools greeting students and connecting with former teachers. It was a special reunion and it meant a lot to the graduates and teachers who played such a big part in their early education and lives.

The graduates also use the walk to inspire and encourage younger students to take advantage of their educational opportunities and dream big for a bright future.

Thanks for the inspiration, West Jordan High seniors!
