Students in Bingham High Business and Marketing Class Receive Big Boost from Local Entrepreneurs in First Ever “Miner Tank” Competition

Students listening to hear who won "Miner Tank"It was an idea CTE Business and Marketing Teacher Andrea Call had to partner students with entrepreneurs in the community offering a real-life lesson in creating and marketing a new business. Based on the popular reality TV show “Shark Tank,” Ms. Call came up with something called “Miner Tank.”

“Miner Tank” is a competition where local entrepreneurs mentored students over the course of several weeks to help them come up with ideas for starting student-run businesses. Then, in a partnership with the Jordan Education Foundation, the mentors and entrepreneurs heard pitches from students who wanted funding for their new business ideas.

Four groups of students presented, hoping to get financial backing for their ideas, which included businesses called “Germ a Phone,” “My Creature Teacher,” “Dock Hero,” and “Demon Time.”

In the end, the winning business proposal was “My Creature Teacher,” plush stuffed animals that come with a book to help children learn tasks like brushing their teeth before bedtime.

Students behind “My Creature Teacher,” Rylin Hendry and Mary Christensen, will now work with their mentor who will invest time and money to actually help get the student-run business off the ground.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this incredible learning opportunity and thank you to the local entrepreneurs for supporting students and their education.
