y School earned the title of Fox 13’s “Cool School of the Week.” Good Day Utah’s Darienne DeBrule spent the morning at the school, experiencing the programs offered and how they impact students and their families. She also saw firsthand why South Valley’s students are such inspiring and tenacious learners.

It was music to the ears of special education teacher Karlee English at Mountain Creek Middle School when the Jordan Education Foundation marched into her classroom with the gift of music.
Ms. English started a ‘United Sound’ program at the school, which is a band consisting of students with special needs, paired with peer tutors who teach them how to play instruments. But Ms. English had a bit of a problem. She didin’t have enough instruments to go around for the band. So, the Jordan Education Foundation, partnering with the local Legacy Retirement Communities, decided to step in and solve the problem. They showed up with a number of different instruments for the students, everything from violins, to trumpets, flutes, and clarinets.
Ms. English and her students were beyond excited and grateful for the generous gift. In fact, Karlee said her students with special needs simply being able to make a sound on an instrument changes them, and being part of ‘United Sound’ is having a huge impact on their lives.
A big thanks to the Jordan Education Foundation for supporting students in the classroom and always looking out for their needs, helping them succeed.
Current Board members Bryce Dunford (District 5), Darrell Robinson (District 1), and Niki George (District 6), along with new Board members Suzanne Wood (District 3), and Erin Barrow (District 4), officially took the Oath of Office and were sworn in for a four-year term Tuesday evening.
Salt Lake County Chief Deputy Clerk Nikila Venugopal administered the Oath. Friends, family, and members of the community were on hand to congratulate the Board members on their election and willingness to serve on behalf of Jordan School District.
The election of Board officers was also held with Niki George elected Board President, Bryce Dunford, First Vice President, and Brian Barnett, Second Vice President.

The Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) at Copper Hills High School have once again showcased their commitment to community service by breaking their record for blood donations. In a remarkable display of generosity, the school collected 174 units of blood during last month’s drive, surpassing the previous record of 170 units set in May 2024. The blood drive qualifies Copper Hils High School’s HOSA students for a $900 scholarship!
These blood drives are crucial in supporting the needs of Utahns facing health crises. According to ARUP Blood Services, a minimum of 75 donors is required daily to meet the demand, with a monthly target of 2,200 units of blood needed. Each high school HOSA program within Jordan School District contributes to this vital effort by organizing blood drives for ARUP Blood Services.
A heartfelt thank you to the HOSA students and staff at Copper Hills High School for their unwavering dedication to helping others and significantly impacting lives through their blood donation initiatives.
It was a fantastic day as students and staff at Hayden Peak Elementary celebrated like it was 1999, which was also the year the school opened. School staff played throwback music that was popular at the time and recounted stories from the late 1990s. Guests included beloved staff members who played a key role in welcoming the first students, adding extra magic to the festivities.
The celebration’s highlight was the opening of the time capsule, placed by the first students and staff during the school’s inaugural year. Denny Berrett, the very first principal of Hayden Peak, helped open the time capsule filled with art, photos, student letters, and popular items like Ty Beanie Babies, Pokémon Cards and toys, and a Zip Drive. Mr. Berrett recalled that the school appeared in local TV broadcasts and newspaper articles and highlighted several notable staff members. The school’s first custodian and office staff were also on hand to help commemorate the anniversary.
