Kindness Rocks at Westland Elementary School!

It was a week dedicated to inspiring acts of kindness at Westland Elementary School. The PTA sponsored a “Kindness Week” which was a huge success and embraced by everyone at Westland, it even caught on in the community. Every class made a kindness quilt, and contributed kindness links to a very long paper chain which wrapped around the entire school.

One evening during this incredible week, kindness really “rocked” at Westland. That’s because a ton of small rocks were brought to the school parking lot where students painted words of kindness on the rocks. Many of the kindness rocks were donated to create a rock garden for everyone to enjoy outside the West Jordan City Library.

Thanks to the PTA for organizing such a meaningful week at Westland Elementary School and for always inspiring kindness in our schools.

Jordan School District Science Specialist Receives Statewide Honor

She has a passion for helping science teachers be successful in the classroom and instilling a love for learning in their students. When she is not helping teachers, Lynn Gutzwiller is supporting adults, helping to meet the needs of adult learners, teaching evening classes at Entrada Adult High School.

Because of the incredible work she does, Ms. Gutzwiller is receiving the “Award of Excellence in Adult Education” from the Mountain Plains Adult Education Association (MPAEA). The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of adult education at the State or local level. Ms. Gutzwiller will represent Utah for the Intermountain West.

Congratulations to this amazing JSD educator who helps teachers and students find joy in science and contributes to adults becoming life-long learners.

Students from Virtual Schools Express Their Creativity at All-Grade Art Show

The three schools that make up Jordan Virtual Learning Academy came together to put on an all-grade art show at Bluffdale City Hall. Students from Rocky Peak Virtual Elementary, Kelsey Peak Virtual Middle, and Kings Peak High showcased their creativity in the visual arts. The works included everything from drawings and paint to ceramics and photography.

You can see the exhibits at Bluffdale City Hall, 2222 W. 14400 S., through Friday, April 26th.

A Sweet Reward for Students at Rocky Peak Virtual Elementary School for Their Success in Walk to Read

Students at Rocky Peak Virtual Elementary School were told their hard work in Walk to Read would pay off and it certainly did with a sweet surprise.

The students took their studying seriously during their Walk to Read groups. They then earned points based on participation and engagement. Students used the points to pie their teachers or to pie the school principal. It was a fun reward for amazing students always eager to learn.

Terra Linda Elementary School Educator Honored as KUTV “Teacher of the Month”

She is known for her work in the classroom always helping her sixth-grade students succeed. Now, a Terra Linda Elementary School teacher is being recognized and rewarded for her efforts. Kimberlee Gunderson is KUTV’s “Teacher of the Month” for April. She was interviewed by KUTV’s Kari Hawker Diaz and given a $750 Visa gift card provided by Volkswagen Southtowne. Ms. Gunderson will be featured in a story on channel 2 as well.

KUTV’s “Teacher of the Month” is a program to celebrate teachers who have influenced the lives of students or their families.
