Juniper Elementary is an upper-elementary public school serving the Herriman community as part of the Jordan School District. Designed specifically to cater to older elementary students, Juniper provides a focused, supportive academic environment that prepares students for success in middle school, high school and beyond.
Our Mission is to help students become productive, contributing members of society by teaching academics and responsible citizenship.
At Juniper Elementary, students are the primary focus of our staff. Together, we provide a warm learning climate where students excel in a fun and safe environment where everyday is a great day to be a Blue Jay!
What Sets Juniper Elementary Apart
- Specialized Upper-Elementary Focus – Unlike traditional K–6 elementary schools, Juniper Elementary strictly serves 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students. Having opened its doors in August 2024, the campus was designed from the ground up to address the unique academic, social, and emotional needs of pre-teens. This specialized structure allows our educators to tailor instruction, leadership opportunities, and school culture directly to upper-elementary learners.
- Specialized Rotation / Specials Classes – Students participate in weekly rotation classes designed to enrich their academic experience and develop well-rounded skills:
- Library Media: Promoting literacy, research skills, and a love for reading.
- Art: Fostering creative expression and visual arts concepts.
- STEM: Engaging students in hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math projects.
- Music (Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program): Delivering high-quality music instruction integrated with core curriculum standards through Utah’s Beverly Taylor Sorenson initiative.
- District Innovation Hub (JSD Innovation Lab) – Juniper Elementary houses the JSD Innovation Lab, an immersive learning facility where 4th–6th graders bring classroom learning to life through hands-on technology and creative projects. Students engage in:
- Stop-Motion Animation: Visual storytelling and digital concept building.
- Makerspace & 3-D Modeling: Engineering physical prototypes and three-dimensional structures.
- Student Leadership: The “TOPGUN” Blue Jay Squadron – Our 6th-grade Student Council operates on a “TOPGUN” Leadership Philosophy—drawing inspiration from elite naval aviation standards:
- Flight Leads & Signal Transmitters: Student leaders learn that their words, choices, and actions broadcast a continuous “signal” across the school halls. By keeping their signal positive, strong, and clear, they model excellence and encourage all peers to fly smoothly.
- Leading Through Service: Student Council leaders focus on teamwork, supporting their peers, and helping every Blue Jay actively S.O.A.R. each day.
- Student Clubs & Extracurriculars – Juniper offers engaging extracurricular opportunities for students to build skills, friendships, and leadership:
- Chess Club: Meets Thursday mornings (8:15 AM – 8:45 AM) in Room 245. Students learn chess strategies, present lessons, and participate in friendly tournament play.
- The Reading Grove Book Club: Meets quarterly after school (3:45 PM – 4:30 PM) in Room 142. Student leaders engage in lively discussions on grade-level literature.
