Jordan School District Students Find Success at Educators Rising National Competition

This summer, seven very talented Jordan School District students attended the Educators Rising National Conference in Orlando. It is a performance-based competition where students who are hoping to become educators, demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and leadership in education.

Ruben Marquez Portillo from Copper Hills High School placed first in the “Varsity Creative Lecture/Ted Talk” category. Ruben is from Venezuela and has only been in the country for two years.  He even made the news in Orlando for his success!  Emily Giang, also from Copper Hills High School, placed fifth in the “Varsity Spanish Children’s Literature” category. Rachel Betts from Bingham High School, who is in the JATC Teacher Education program, took fifth place in the “Varsity Lesson Planning in STEM”.

Congratulations to these amazing students and future teachers. You make us proud!

Public Invited to West Jordan Elementary School Surplus Sale

Community members are invited to purchase a piece of West Jordan Elementary School history during a public surplus sale this Saturday, July 15. This is a sale only, not an auction, and everything will have a fixed price. Items like tables, large and small kitchen equipment, carts, chairs, and bookcases will be available.

Everything purchased will need to be paid for and picked up on Saturday. Debit and credit cards will be the only forms of payment accepted. Anything physically attached to the building, like doors, light fixtures, and cabinets are NOT for sale.

2023 Truth In Taxation

The Jordan School District Board of Education is proposing a tax increase for teacher pay. A Truth in Taxation hearing will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. at West Jordan High School. This will be an opportunity for public comment on the tax increase. You can also contact Board Members on the Board Members page and selecting their phone number or e-mail address.

The tax amount will decrease by approximately five dollars on an average home, valued at $582,000.
