Oct. 28 Board Meeting Update

You are invited to a meeting of the Board of Education of Jordan School District on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at the JATC South Campus, 12723 S. Park Avenue, Riverton, Utah. The study session begins at 4 p.m. The Regular Board Meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Patrons may view the general session online at boardmeeting.jordandistrict.org.

Administrative policies that will be discussed include A7 Suggestions from Employees and AA419 Student Conduct, Dress, and Appearance. Congratulations Jordan School District 2025 Class of Retirees

They have made a huge impact in the lives of thousands of students throughout the course of their careers, and now they are beginning a new chapter in their own lives. The Jordan School District 2025 Class of Retirees were honored during a special dinner and celebration sponsored by the Board of Education on Tuesday night.

A total of 93 employees are retiring this year and together they have devoted 2,207 years to education. The longest serving retiree in this year’s class is Paul Thomas with 44 years followed by Dyke Nelsen with 41.25 years.

A huge thank you to all of our retirees. You have devoted countless hours to students and their education, and your work has made a huge difference in Jordan School District. We wish you the very best in your retirement, you will be missed.

Also a big thanks to the Mountain Ridge High School madrigals for a beautiful performance under the direction of Kelly DeHaan. And thanks to Jeramie Velarde for sharing his amazing musical talents, setting the stage as retirees were arriving for the evening.

Election of Officers and Oath of Office for Board of Education Members

Current Board members Bryce Dunford (District 5), Darrell Robinson (District 1), and Niki George (District 6), along with new Board members Suzanne Wood (District 3), and Erin Barrow (District 4), officially took the Oath of Office and were sworn in for a four-year term Tuesday evening.

Salt Lake County Chief Deputy Clerk Nikila Venugopal administered the Oath. Friends, family, and members of the community were on hand to congratulate the Board members on their election and willingness to serve on behalf of Jordan School District.

The election of Board officers was also held with Niki George elected Board President, Bryce Dunford, First Vice President, and Brian Barnett, Second Vice President.

Celebrating Elk Ridge Middle School at the Recent Board of Education Meeting

It was a night to celebrate and take pride in students, teachers, and staff at Elk Ridge Middle School. Elk Ridge students led the Pledge of Allegiance and then shared with the Board the many reasons why their school is so special.

Kari Johnson, Student Body Officer, talked about the rich history of Elk Ridge Middle School dating back to 1994 when the school opened. She said there has always been a tradition of taking pride in moving things from good to great at Elk Ridge Middle. She praised the really great teachers who inspire student success and work so hard to provide opportunities. Kari said students enjoy a number of celebrations at the school throughout the year and they now have 25 clubs giving students a sense of belonging. Kari said over the years, the school’s commitment to students has not changed and they are still always moving from good to great.

Board members congratulated the students and wished them well this school year by shaking their hands at the end of the presentation.
