JATC South Students Participate in Roundtable Focusing on Technical Careers

Picture of Diesel Tech studentsSome JATC South Diesel Tech students had a unique opportunity to meet with Senator Mitt Romney recently as part of a Diesel Roundtable discussion focusing on technical careers and workforce development.

They were able to talk to Senator Romney about their experiences in the Diesel Tech program and discussed how to make the trades, specifically those in diesel and transportation, more appealing to high school students. Romney wants to make sure students understand options they have in pursuing technical careers in Utah.

While meeting with the senator, the students also participated in a job shadow on the shop floor at Kenworth Sales.

We are proud of all the students who participated in the roundtable and wish them the very best in their pursuit of a career in the Diesel Tech industry.

Celebrating Our Amazing School Psychologists!

This week is National School Psychology Week (NSPW), a week set aside to highlight the important work school psychologists do to help all students thrive.

Our school psychologists are uniquely qualified members of school teams. They support students’ ability to learn and teachers’ ability to teach. School psychologists help children and youth succeed academically, socially and behaviorally, as well as helping to create a positive school environment.

Join Superintendent Godfrey and Jordan School District as we say thank you to our valued school psychologists for the important work they do and the impact they have on young lives each and every day.

Riverton High Student to Make History Competing in First Ever Utah Special Olympics DanceSport Event

Riverton High School student Travis Willis is about to make history along with some good friends who have been dancing with him for about four years now. Travis and his dance team will compete in the first ever DanceSport event for Utah Special Olympics. Travis and his team train at Darby’s Dancers in South Jordan.

Former “Dancing with the Stars Pro,” and professional dancer, Louis Van Amstel is the Utah Special Olympics Dance Ambassador and he has worked very hard to make Dance an official Utah Special Olympics sport. Van Amstel says Dance will expand opportunities for athletes in Special Olympics and help everyone see the true abilities and talents of those participating in DanceSport competitions.

You can see Travis compete against teams from around the state and country on Saturday November, 6 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Masonic Temple in downtown Salt Lake City.

Travis Willis is also a member of the Color Guard at Riverton High School. Best of luck this weekend, Travis. We are very proud of your accomplishments!

Terra Linda Elementary Cafeteria Team Serves Up Kindness with Daily Cuisine

They serve up smiles with an extra helping of kindness every single day at Terra Linda Elementary School. That’s why Assistant Principal Jarom Airhart says the Terra Linda cafeteria team is one of the best around. The team, led by Margie McDaniel, has a combined 77 years on the job cooking for kids at the school.

Mr. Airhart says, “They not only create world class cuisine but they are always surprising the Terra Linda staff with cookies, fruit trays and other goodies. They know the kids by name and frequently come out of the kitchen to say hello to students and make sure they are enjoying themselves. We see many of our lunch staff attending community events where they volunteer their time. We are lucky to have such a great group of gals.”

The cafeteria team is always going above and beyond. Mr. Airhart says teachers meet in the “celebration room” for PLC and every week Ms. Margie prepares a delicious plate of fresh fruit and cookies for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you, Margie and the Terra Linda cafeteria team. Keep up the great work nourishing students and staff and serving up smiles and kindness along the way.
