Thousands of JSD Teachers Return and Collaborate During Districtwide Day of Professional Development

JSD Educators listen to a national renowned speakerWe couldn’t be happier to have teachers back for the beginning of a new school year and their return started with lots of fun and collaboration. Thousands of teachers came together Tuesday for JSD’s Districtwide Professional Development Day. It was a day packed with inspiration and collaboration.

All teachers were able to choose one of several inspirational morning keynote speakers who appealed most to them. Then, they were provided grade level/content area training and collaboration in the afternoon.

Thanks to all teachers for participating in this important professional development day and making their return to start the 2024-25 school year one to remember.

Have you filled out your Free & Reduced Application for school breakfast and lunch this school year? 

It is essential to apply each year, even if you were previously approved. You can fill out the application during school registration. Only one application needs to be submitted per household. Visit the Nutrition Services website to complete the online application.

If you prefer a printed application, you can get one at your child’s school.

Jordan School District Welcomes 400 New Teachers with Big Celebration 

It was a fun and exciting day as 400 new teachers were welcomed into the Jordan School District family during a big celebration event in their honor.

A drum line, cheerleaders, mascots, students, administrators, city officials, and more all lined up to greet the new teachers as they arrived at Bingham High School for a welcome program and new teacher induction. It was a great day recognizing teachers and the large number of college graduates now getting into education.

Work Progressing on the New Juniper Elementary School in Herriman

Crews have been hard at work throughout the summer making sure Juniper Elementary School in Herriman is ready to go when students arrive for the very first year learning and making lasting memories and traditions at the new school.

Furniture has been delivered with desks going into classrooms. Office furniture has arrived as well and carpet is being installed. Outside, crews are working on landscaping, finishing some sod work.

Juniper Elementary is opening for the 2024-25 school year and will be home to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students from Ridge View Elementary School.

Principal Kaleb Yates is very excited and has been very busy planning to welcome students, parents, teachers, and staff to the new school.

Jordan School District Joins Utah Department of Agriculture & Food and USBE in “Farm to School” Initiatives Bringing Fresh Fruit and Veggies into School Cafeterias

It is a way to help educate students and their families on all the benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables every day. Jordan School District is proud to be part of Utah’s “Farm to School” initiatives, which support local farmers bringing local produce straight from the field to our cafeteria tables. JSD Nutrition Services staff work closely with local farmers to bring fresh food in and help the lunchroom workers learn how to use seasonal food picked fresh from local fields.

At Majestic Elementary School representatives from the Utah Department of Agriculture & Food and USBE, along with members of the media, were on hand as the cafeteria staff prepared a delicious free summer lunch. Part of the lunch consisted of fresh raw and cooked yellow squash from Bangerter Farm and chocolate chip zucchini muffins, made with Bangerter Farm zucchini. Serving fresh food is a great way to increase students’ exposure to locally-grown produce in Utah and encourage healthy eating habit that will last a lifetime.
