South Jordan Middle School Students Suprise Retiring Teacher with an Original Composition

Students in the Sinfonia Orchestra at South Jordan Middle School wanted to give their retiring teacher Richard D. Munro a gift that he would never forget. So the students, along with the incoming orchestra teacher, practiced for hours on their own time, creating an original collaborative composition to play for him at their concert. Mr. Munro was so impressed and moved that he had the students play it again at the school’s end of the year invitational concert.

What a great way to honor the career of a dedicated teacher. Enjoy your much-deserved retirement, Mr. Munro.

Congratulations, Amy Goodrich, 2022 UEA Excellence in Teaching Award Winner

Picture of Amy GoodrichPlease join us in saying congratulations to Riverton High School’s Amy Goodrich, who was recently honored with a 2022 UEA Excellence in Teaching Award. Ms. Goodrich is a credit recovery specialist at Riverton High School and works tirelessly to get students on track to graduate.

Ms. Goodrich’s principal said, “she is worth her weight in gold because she doesn’t just throw make‐up work toward students and expect them to complete it; she mentors them and sits with them to help them understand expectations and how to take small steps toward what can be overwhelming goals.”

“Amy thrives on teaching the skills that many of her students lack,” wrote a fellow teacher. “These skills range from basic reading, writing, arithmetic, to executive functioning skills like time management, goal setting, communication and overcoming setbacks and disappointments.”

Last year alone, 100 seniors graduated specifically because they were working with Amy.

Keep up your amazing and important work Amy. You make the District proud!
