Community Comes Together to Support Rocky Peak Virtual Elementary School and a Super Fun Literacy Night

Rocky Peak Virtual Elementary School transformed into a vibrant hub of literacy and fun on March 6, as students, families, and staff gathered to celebrate Read Across America Week with a superhero-themed Literacy Night. This event, aimed at promoting literacy and fostering a love for reading among students, was a resounding success, drawing enthusiastic participation from the entire school community.

Students, dressed in their favorite superhero attire, eagerly explored a variety of literacy-themed stations designed to ignite their imaginations and enhance their reading skills. Families enjoyed a pizza dinner, providing the perfect opportunity to relax and connect with fellow community members. Face painting stations transformed attendees into their favorite superheroes, while letter writing and comprehension games provided interactive learning experiences.

The event also featured a booth from the Salt Lake City Library, offering students the opportunity to sign up for library cards on the spot. Parents and children alike were thrilled to gain access to a world of books.

The Literacy Night was a testament to the school’s commitment to fostering a lifelong love of reading and learning. Check out more about Rocky Peak Virtual at the school website. https://rockypeak.jordandistrict.org/

Kelsey Peak Virtual Middle School Educator Given “Innovative Teacher Award”

Congratulations to Kelsey Peak Virtual Middle School teacher Krista Gibbons, who was presented with an Innovative Teacher Award by the Utah Coalition for Educational Technology. The Innovative Teacher Award is given to a teacher in each school district who employs new or novel teaching practices that contribute to student learning.

Krista engages her Social Studies students in tech-based projects that address real-world issues, encouraging critical thinking and innovation. She encourages colleagues to explore technology use in their classrooms and is the first to volunteer to test a new program or implement a new curriculum.

Thank you Krista for your contagious enthusiasm and congratulations on a well-deserved award!

Thank You to Our School Maintenance Employees!

Today is School Maintenance Employees’ Appreciation Day and Jordan School District has some of the best! We celebrate the hardworking individuals who keep the lights shining, water flowing, heat blowing, doors locking, vehicles rolling, and so much more. Our schools are clean and safe inside and out because of the work our maintenance workers do throughout the year. Thank you!

Community Comes Together to Celebrate the Joy of Reading at Heartland Elementary School

Book worms were out in force at Heartland Elementary School as students, teachers, staff, and members of the community helped celebrate “Read Across America Day.” This is a day devoted to motivating and inspiring students to read. It is also a day to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

Everyone got in on the fun at Heartland, with police officers, firefighters, West Jordan Mayor Dirk Burton, Superintendent Anthony Godfrey, Board of Education Member Lisa Dean, Principal Buddy Alger, Area Administrator of Schools Lisa Robinson, and many others reading to students in classroom after classroom. They read Dr. Seuss books like “The Cat in the Hat” and “Green Eggs and Ham.” Dr. Seuss once said “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

Thanks to Heartland and all schools for inspiring students to read every day!
