Before leaving on summer break, students were treated to a full day of fun at Mountain Shadows Elementary School. Teachers took on 6th grade students in a kickball tournament followed by an afternoon of silly games and good times. Students watched as teachers puckered up and kissed a pig, had fun with silly string, were wrapped in toilet paper and took pies to their faces.

Principal Susuicco was even turned into a human sundae along with some other fun-loving teachers.

The last day of school was filled with fun for students at Rocky Peak Virtual Elementary School. That’s because the school’s principal, teachers and staff organized a field day with games like a ring toss, chalk art, sidewalk bowling, even pink flamingos joined in the fun.

Students also had the opportunity to pose for pictures with the principal who had a new look for the day. Mr. Menlove dyed his hair bright pink, a memorable way to send students off for summer.

We can’t wait to see what Mr. Menlove and his staff have in store for students in the upcoming year at Rocky Peak Virtual Elementary School!

She has worked tirelessly with kindness and compassion educating students in Jordan School District for 30 years and counting. Please join us in congratulating South Jordan Middle School’s Kim Player, the 2022 Jordan School District Teacher of the Year.

Colleagues say Ms. Player is a mentor and works collaboratively to help others learn new techniques and strategies for improving teaching methods. Students feel welcome and excited to attend her class and her door is always open to anyone who may need some help. Ms. Player is the first to offer help to those in need and always goes above and beyond in the work she does supporting students, teachers and staff at South Jordan Middle School.

Ms. Player will now compete for the USBE Utah Teacher of the Year. Best of luck, you make Jordan School District proud.

Please join us in saying congratulations to Riverton High School’s Amy Goodrich, who was recently honored with a 2022 UEA Excellence in Teaching Award. Ms. Goodrich is a credit recovery specialist at Riverton High School and works tirelessly to get students on track to graduate.

Ms. Goodrich’s principal said, “she is worth her weight in gold because she doesn’t just throw make‐up work toward students and expect them to complete it; she mentors them and sits with them to help them understand expectations and how to take small steps toward what can be overwhelming goals.”

“Amy thrives on teaching the skills that many of her students lack,” wrote a fellow teacher. “These skills range from basic reading, writing, arithmetic, to executive functioning skills like time management, goal setting, communication and overcoming setbacks and disappointments.”

Last year alone, 100 seniors graduated specifically because they were working with Amy.

Join us in congratulating two amazing Jordan School District teachers honored with a Sorenson Legacy Award for Excellence in Arts Education. Westland Elementary School art teacher Lori Nickerson received the award for her excellence in elementary arts integration. Blackridge Elementary School music teacher Joshua Roberts received the award for excellence in music instruction.

The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) supported by a grant from the Sorenson Legacy Foundation honored the educations at a special banquet. The awards recognize distinguished educators who embrace the arts with excellence in their practice at Utah’s public schools.
