The Jordan Education Foundation is once again rallying behind students and teachers in the classroom. The Foundation is traveling from school to school awarding a record number of classroom grants this year. A total of $512,199.00 was awarded to teachers, funding 931 projects in 67 schools, all thanks to the generosity of donors throughout the community.

The grants will be used to purchase STEM supplies, language immersion libraries, guided reading books, Chromebooks, flexible seating options, applied science materials, math manipulatives, listening centers, sensory items and software, along with other valuable classroom tools and equipment.

We are proud of the partnerships and commitment on the part of so many people to make supporting students and teachers a priority in Jordan School District.

She is a valued teacher who approaches everything with a positive attitude. That is just one reason why West Jordan Middle School’s Kathy Howa is being honored as the November “Teacher Spotlight for Health and Physical Education” by the Utah State Board of Education (USBE).

The nomination for Ms. Howa said, in part, “Kathy is amazing and positive all the time. She goes above and beyond in her job. She is a joy to collaborate with and is always so kind and grateful. She consistently seeks out new ways to help her students. She seeks out ways to be a better teacher each day. All around, she is “the salt of the earth.”

Everyone at West Jordan Middle feels fortunate to work with Ms. Howa and the District is proud of her many accomplishments.

It was a moment RaeAnna Kirk and her family won’t soon forget. District nurses secretly gathered with balloons, flowers and treats to share some amazing news with RaeAnna, who is the lead nurse for Jordan School District. The nurses wanted to be first to let RaeAnna know she has been selected as the Utah School Nurses Association’s 2022 School Nurse Administrator of the Year!

The recognition was a complete surprise for RaeAnna, but nurses say she is beyond deserving of the award. The nurses read messages which were part of the nomination process, stating things like “RaeAnna is very professional in her duties, each of her team members know that they are valued by her. She goes out of her way to connect with each nurse individually.” Another nurse said, “Throughout the COVID crisis, RaeAnna was the rock that kept our team together.” Still another nurse shared, “RaeAnna really cares for the students that she has worked with. She offers her students space in her office to take breaks as well as making sure that they feel safe and well taken care of at school.”

Congratulations, RaeAnna Kirk. Keep up the compassionate work, you make the District proud!
