Students working on laptops in a classroomJordan School District is now accepting applications for school choice open enrollment for the 2022-23 school year. Students currently attending on a school choice permit do NOT have to reapply for a permit if they are remaining at the same school for the 2022-23 school year.

However, students who want to move schools or any student currently on the waitlist without a permit must reapply to be considered for a 2022-23 permit.

South Jordan Family Spreading Warmth in Cold Winter Months

The Jones family standing by the Columbia Elementary sign When Julia and Kevin Jones realized way too many kids were going to go without warm coats over the cold winter months, they rallied their six children to pitch in and do something to help. The family started a campaign called “Every Kid in a Coat,” and set out to provide as many new or used coats to students and families in need as possible, with donations and support from the local community.

The Jones family recently delivered 250 coats to Oquirrh Elementary School and about 250 winter coats to Columbia Elementary for students in need.

We appreciate the efforts of the Jones family and everyone involved in providing coats for kids in need.

Two Mountain Creek Middle School Students with Special Needs Selected to Represent Utah in the Rose Bowl Parade

Two students hold their musical instrumentsIt will be the experience of a lifetime for two Mountain Creek Middle School students with special needs. Jaymi Bonner, an 8th grade student who plays violin and Emma Figueroa, an 9th grade student who plays trumpet, will both be representing Utah in the Rose Bowl parade. The students were selected, along with others who have special needs, from all over the country. They all participate in a program called “United Sound.” The program focuses on relationship building and partners special needs students with peer tutors who assist and support them playing in their individual school bands.

Jaymi and Emma are busy preparing for the once in a lifetime event with their peer tutor, who will travel to the Rose Bowl and participate in the parade with the girls.

Thanks to everyone at Mountain Creek Middle School for supporting this program, especially Special Education teacher Karlee English and Music teacher Cameron Elliott.

Community Helps Fund Jordan Education Foundation Classroom Grants Totaling $352,987 for Teachers Throughout the District

Westvale Elementary staff holds up a check from the Jordan Education Foundation It was an unexpected surprise for teachers throughout Jordan School District right before the holiday season. Thanks to generous donors in our community, the Jordan Education Foundation was able to award a total of $352,987 to teachers and classrooms funding 637 projects. Grants will be used to purchase STEM supplies, language immersion libraries, guided reading books, Chromebooks, flexible seating options, applied science materials, math manipulatives, listening centers, sensory items, software, and other valuable classroom tools and equipment.

The Foundation is sending a special thanks to all those who donated, including Rocky Mountain Power, KSOP Tools for Schools, Wasatch Financial, and the JEF Annual Golf Classic sponsors for their support of the Classroom Grant program.
