The Fall Family Fair Helped Build Community Connections

Crowds at the Jordan Fall Family FairMore than 2000 Jordan School District families and community members gathered last week at JATC South for the Fall Family Fair. The fair was a chance for the District and community partners to connect students and their parents with resources they might not otherwise have found.

The fair featured 35 different departments in Jordan School District. Nurses provided health screenings, while math, literacy, gifted and talented, STEM, and digital learning teacher specialists oversaw academic activities and shared helpful learning strategies. In addition, Jordan District Health and Wellness Team and Health Services shared their knowledge and provided community resources for families. Other partners included the Salt Lake County Library, gang prevention specialists, and community outreach groups.

This year’s Fall Family Fair was a huge success thanks to all the hard work for Jordan School District employees and community partners. We also want to recognize the hard work put in by the Language & Cultures Services Department for organizing this excellent resource for everyone in our community.

Dr. Godfrey stands with staff from Terra Linda Elementary Take a minute out of your day to say thank you to custodians in schools and buildings throughout the District. Today is National Custodian Appreciation Day! It is a day to show appreciation for the men and women who keep our schools and workplaces clean, shining, well maintained and running smoothly.

Superintendent Anthony Godfrey stopped by Terra Linda Elementary School to surprise custodian John Cooke with his favorite cream soda. It was a way to say thank-you for Mr. Cooke’s hard work each and every day. Students at the school wrote thank-you cards for custodian Cooke, letting him know how much he is appreciated at Terra Linda.

These valuable employees contribute to the important first impressions in our schools and buildings, they lend a helping hand wherever they are needed. They are an important part of the Jordan School District family.

Superintendent checks out the goatsIt was a hands-on educational experience that brought aspects of agriculture and having fun on the farm to students in the city.

On this episode of the Supercast, we take you to the annual 7th Grade Agriculture Day at JATC South where members of FFA helped teach middle school students about different professions in the ag industry as well as how food makes its way from farms to the dinner table. Two award winning goats also joined the ag day action, making a special guest appearance on the Supercast.

Elementary School Students Participate in Mock Legislative Session

Elementary school students participating in a mock legislative sessionSome students from Bastian, Silver Crest and Herriman Elementary Schools received a hands-on lesson on how bills are passed and how the state legislature works. They headed to the State Capitol for a field trip where local lawmakers welcomed the students and taught them what is being described as “Government at a Glance.” Students had an opportunity to ask questions and tour the Capitol. Then, they headed to the floor of the House of Representatives where they debated eight bills in a mock legislative session. For example, they debated a mock resolution to make ice cream the official dessert of Utah.

Superintendent meets virtually with Rhyan WhiteRhyan White is a Herriman native who is now among the best of the best in competitive swimming in the United States. That’s because Rhyan won a silver medal in the women’s 4×100-meter medley relay at the recent 2020 Summer Olympics. She also placed fourth in both the 100-meter backstroke and the 200-meter backstroke.

On this episode of the Supercast, Rhyan White takes time out of her busy schedule at the University of Alabama to talk about what it takes to become an Olympic athlete. Rhyan shares her experience at the summer games in Tokyo and talks about coming home to a hero’s welcome in Herriman.
