Riverton High Student to Make History Competing in First Ever Utah Special Olympics DanceSport Event

Riverton High School student Travis Willis is about to make history along with some good friends who have been dancing with him for about four years now. Travis and his dance team will compete in the first ever DanceSport event for Utah Special Olympics. Travis and his team train at Darby’s Dancers in South Jordan.

Former “Dancing with the Stars Pro,” and professional dancer, Louis Van Amstel is the Utah Special Olympics Dance Ambassador and he has worked very hard to make Dance an official Utah Special Olympics sport. Van Amstel says Dance will expand opportunities for athletes in Special Olympics and help everyone see the true abilities and talents of those participating in DanceSport competitions.

You can see Travis compete against teams from around the state and country on Saturday November, 6 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Masonic Temple in downtown Salt Lake City.

Travis Willis is also a member of the Color Guard at Riverton High School. Best of luck this weekend, Travis. We are very proud of your accomplishments!
