She was up against really tough competition on a national stage that included both middle and high school students. Join us in congratulating Rebecca Mcquire, a ninth grade South Jordan Middle School student, who recently took second place in the 2022 National Chinese Speech Contest. Rebecca was the youngest in the group and did an amazing job in the competition, which was conducted online over the weekend. Principal Nicole Johnson says Rebecca is a dedicated and well-versed student in the Chinese Dual Language Immersion program at South Jordan Middle and Rebecca’s teacher, HsiuMei Pitts, does a phenomenal job coaching and teaching her students.
We are proud of Recbecca Mcquire for her amazing accomplishment and thankful for incredible and dedicated teachers like Ms. Pitts! Keep up the great work.
It was a lesson in city government filled with fun, laughter and a lot of good information coming from a man who has a lot to share. Third grade students at Columbia Elementary School had a very special guest visit their classroom to talk about the workings of city government.
West Jordan Mayor Dirk Burton took time out of his busy schedule to stop by, meet the students, and talk about his job as mayor and other jobs in the city like police, fire and parks & recreation. Mayor Burton gave the students a quick lesson in taxes and talked to them about the importance of being kind to one another. The Mayor also took time to answer questions and told students he loves his job because he likes solving problems and making the City of West Jordan a great place to live and work.
Thank you, Mayor Burton, for supporting students and their education by sharing your knowledge, experience and kindness in the classroom.
It was a day at the dentist inside West Jordan Middle School. Students from across Jordan School District were provided free dental and preventative care thanks to a group of volunteer dentists, dental assistants and dental hygienists who came together in the gym at West Jordan Middle using high tech mobile dental equipment to see patients. The group called TeamSmile was prepared to provide full dental work on site for students in need, including exams, x-rays, screenings, cleanings, fillings, extractions and root canals.
TeamSmile is the nation’s premier advocacy group that partners oral health professionals with professional athletic organizations to provide life-changing dental care to underserved children in communities.
Thank you to TeamSmile, their volunteer dentists, oral care professionals and the Utah Jazz organization for giving deserving students something to smile about by bringing oral care directly to them at school.
Join us in congratulating West Jordan Middle School students for their recent victory at the statewide “We the People” competition. WJMS took home first place for the southern division at Utah Valley University. In fact, West Jordan Middle defeated five other schools to win first place for the second time in the last five years.
“We the People” is an in-depth research and presentation project that helps students gain a deep level of knowledge about the United States government, the Constitution and Founding Documents, rights and responsibilities of citizens.
West Jordan Middle provides this amazing educational experience to the entire 8th grade.
West Jordan Middle appreciates all the volunteers who assisted in the school level competition helping students prepare for State. Thanks to members of Jordan School District administration, the Utah State Office of Education, and Utah legislative interns for participating as judges in the WJMS competition.
Congratulations to the amazing West Jordan Middle students!
