Students Plan to Participate in National Day of Service Joining Forces with Caring Community

It is a day to engage and inspire people to serve in whatever way they can. The National Day of Service is Wednesday, Sept. 11 and it is a great way for everyone to come together for the benefit of others.

Over the weekend, the Jordan Education Foundation got a head start on the National Day of Service collecting food for students who may otherwise go without breakfast and lunch, or meals on the weekend. Thanks to the generosity of many community members, large food donations were collected at two drop off sites, West Jordan High School and Juniper Elementary School. All of the food will be delivered to schools to fill Principal’s Pantries and made available to any student in need.

Thank you to those who donated to support students! We are proud to be a part of this amazing, kind, and caring community.

Utah Band Students Show Up to Support Herriman High School Mourning the Loss of Beloved Band Director

Picture of band students supporting one anotherHe was a beloved leader and impacted the lives of students he taught every single day. Raymond Hernandez was the band director at Herriman High School and his smile would brighten any classroom he entered. Family members say he was living his dream in a job he loved.

Sadly, on August 27, Mr. Hernandez lost his long and courageous battle with cancer. Herriman High students, teachers, staff, and administrators are heartbroken over the loss. They say Mr. Hernandez leaves behind a legacy of kindness, caring, and a true love for his band.

When band members from other high schools and districts in Utah learned about the Herriman High loss, they decided to show their love by carrying out an act of kindness that brought some to tears. Band students representing Lone Peak High School, Pleasant Grove High School, Mountain Ridge High School, Davis High School, Kearns High School, Riverton High School, Timpview High School, Salem Hills High School, and West Jordan High School traveled to Herriman High to sit in the stands showing their support, while the Herriman High band practiced on the football field this week.

It was a moment of unity among band members, supporting one another in a way that will not be forgotten. Thank you, band members, for taking care of each other and being stronger together. Mr. Hernandez would be proud!
